The School of Nursing offers several pathways to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. The Pre-Licensure pathway is offered for traditional freshmen and transfer students who have not been previously admitted to a nursing program and who do not hold a nursing license. The 2nd Degree Hybrid pathway is offered for students who already have a baccalaureate degree in another field who have not been previously admitted to a nursing program and who do not hold a nursing license. The LPN-Advanced Placement pathway is offered for licensed LPNs who demonstrate, through comprehensive, proctored exams, mastery of certain areas of nursing care. These pathways are offered at both campuses and at the Baton Rouge teaching site. The RN-BSN pathway is a fully-online program for those who have graduated from a nationally accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program and who hold licensure as a registered nurse.
All BSN degree pathways require a total of 120 credit hours and admit a new cohort each fall and spring term. Admission to the School of Nursing is competitive, and the program requirements listed are minimum. Students admitted to the university or meeting these minimum requirements are not guaranteed program admission. Students seeking program admission must submit the appropriate program-specific application to the School of Nursing for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Academic Partnership Dual Enrollment
William Carey University (WCU) School of Nursing (SON) values the education provided by our community college partners in both Mississippi and Louisiana. Additionally, WCU SON recognizes the impact on positive health outcomes when baccalaureate prepared nurses are placed at the bedside. The Academic Partnership Dual Enrollment track allows students enrolled at the community college who are pursuing an associate degree in nursing to dually enroll at WCU SON and shorten the path to earning the baccalaureate degree. Students who enroll in the Academic Partnership Dual Enrollment track may seamlessly transfer up to 60 credits from the community college to WCU. The student must complete required nursing courses at WCU and are awarded 27 credit hours upon licensure as a registered nurse (see DEG 02 on the degree plan). The total number of required hours for the degree is 120 hours with the last 30 hours for the BSN degree requiring continuous enrollment at WCU.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the Academic Partnership Dual Enrollment track, the student must:
- Be admitted into the community college with which WCU SON holds a memorandum of understanding;
- Apply and be admitted to WCU;
- Apply and be admitted to the Academic Partnership Dual Enrollment track in WCU SON;
- Provide evidence of a clear criminal background check (may be done in conjunction with the background check performed for enrollment at the community college); and
- Begin taking non-clinical RN-BSN nursing courses and/or co-requisite courses while enrolled in the associate degree nursing program at the community college.
Program Length
Program length is individualized dependent upon the requirements of the associate degree nursing program in which the student is enrolled. Program completion is measured within one year of licensure as a registered nurse.
Graduation
To be eligible for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the student must fulfill all university degree requirements, complete all nursing courses with a minimum grade of ‘C’, and be recommended for degree by the dean and faculty. The conferred degree will indicate a baccalaureate of science degree in nursing.
