Policy stipulates flexibility is essential to the improvement of access by servicemembers to undergraduate educational programs, and further, that institutional policies and practices be fair, equitable, and effective in recognizing special and often limiting conditions faced by military students. Academic residency is satisfied by 30 hours of the undergraduate degree courses being completed with William Carey University.

 Army: https://www.usm.edu/military-science/training-curriculum.php

Class Attendance

A successful educational experience requires regular class attendance, participation, and submission of assignments. Excessive absences not only negatively impact the work of the absent student but may also affect the work product of the entire class. Individual faculty members set their own attendance regulations for their classes and inform their students of them; however, students must attend a minimum of 75% of the class meetings to receive credit for the course. Likewise, excessive class absences may negatively impact one’s current and future financial aid and scholarship status. The total number of absences of each student shall be reported for each class by each faculty member at the time of filing trimester grade rosters. Online course attendance requires the student’s activity in the online course each week the course is active. Hybrid courses combine attendance in required face-to-face class meetings and weekly activity in the online portions of the course.

Campus Safety and Security

Campus security personnel on the Hattiesburg campus are available 24 hours a day. Security personnel on the Tradition campus are located at the security station at the campus entrance. All crimes and suspicious activity should be reported promptly to campus security: Hattiesburg (601) 318-6300; Tradition (228) 223-1807. For campus crime statistics, visit https://www.wmcarey.edu/office/security.

Student Rights and Responsibilities

Students are expected to always display proper conduct. The student code of conduct and the policies and procedures for dealing with violations of the code are outlined in the student handbook, The Translation. The university reserves the right to require the withdrawal of a student whose conduct and/or academic work do not meet university standards. Students have the right to appeal decisions through appropriate channels as outlined in the student handbook.
