Education Endorsement Areas

Education students can add the following endorsement areas to their program of study: Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disabilities), Math Education (for Elementary Education Majors), STEM Endorsement. 

Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disabilities) Add-on Endorsements


An elementary education or secondary education major can add certification in special education (mild/moderate disabilities) by completing the following additional courses:

Math Education Endorsement for Elementary Education Majors


A math endorsement would require the completion of required Elementary Education Math concentration courses and the following:

Secondary Education Requirements For Teaching High School Subjects


Students completing these courses also receive a minor in secondary education. Secondary teaching licensure is offered in biology/chemistry, English, mathematics, and social studies. Teacher candidates who plan to teach at the high school level should major in a secondary subject matter field. Secondary teaching certification requirements include the university core (outlined elsewhere in this catalog for the B.A., B.S., or B.M. degree), additional teacher education core courses, the specialty area courses (outlined under the respective department sections of this catalog), and all professional education courses including the following:

Biology Education with Chemistry Endorsement, Teacher Licensure


To be licensed to teach biology and chemistry at the secondary level, a student must meet the following requirements: 1) completion of all core curriculum requirements for the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree; 2) completion of all professional requirements mandated by the State of Mississippi licensure standards, and 3) completion of the content course requirements including

choose from one upper level biology course

Teacher Candidate


Students must be advised by the School of Education secondary coordinator. Students wishing to be a teacher candidate must meet all School of Education admission standards including

Chemistry Endorsement


To obtain the chemistry endorsement, students must also complete

STEM Endorsement


The STEM Endorsement is available to pre-service teachers seeking a degree in elementary or secondary education. The 12-hour program of study will prepare prospective teachers to integrate and incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematices to PreK-12 instruction.
