Requirements

To be licensed to teach mathematics at the secondary level, a student must meet the following requirements: 1) completion of all core curriculum requirements for the B.A. or B.S. degree, 2) completion of all professional requirements mandated by the State of Mississippi licensure standards, 3) completion of the requirements for a major in mathematics that includes

MAT 210 - Field Experience I Credit Hours: 1
MAT 310 - Field Experience II Credit Hours: 1
MAT 411 - Field Experience III Credit Hours: 1
MAT 335 - Foundations of Mathematics Credit Hours: 3
MAT 270 - Elementary Statistics Credit Hours: 3
or
MAT 336 - Probability Credit Hours: 3
or
MAT 337 - Mathematical Statistics Credit Hours: 3
MAT 341 - Linear Algebra I Credit Hours: 3
MAT 436 - Geometry Credit Hours: 3
MAT 441 - Abstract Algebra Credit Hours: 3
or
MAT 342 - Linear Algebra II Credit Hours: 3
or
MAT 338 - Discrete Mathematics Credit Hours: 3
three additional hours of approved mathematics electives numbered above MAT 252

Students must be advised from the both the department of mathematics and the department of education.
