Program Overview


The Master of Science in Health Administration (MHA) is designed to prepare graduates for leadership and administrative roles within diverse healthcare organizations. Graduates are prepared to pursue leadership positions in hospitals, health systems, community health organizations, governmental agencies, and nonprofit healthcare entities.

The master’s program is designed to be completed in two or three years, including summer terms; however, all degree requirements must be completed within six years. The program requires a total of 30 credit hours. The curriculum provides foundational and advanced study in healthcare leadership, policy, finance, ethics, and organizational management, equipping students with the knowledge and competencies necessary to address the complexities of contemporary healthcare systems.

The program is delivered in an online format. Coursework is online with additional course content and learning activities delivered through the Canvas learning management system. Additionally, the program includes a supervised practicum experience and a culminating capstone project that incorporates applied research. These experiences are intended to promote the integration of theory and practice.

Program Admission Requirements


To be admitted as a regular student, the applicant must:

  • Submit a completed application to William Carey University graduate school.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Submit a 1-2 page scholarly narrative of professional goals.
  • Submit a current resume.
  • Submit two recommendations: The reference form will be emailed to the references entered in the online application.
  • Submit a completed criminal background history attestation.
  • Have a clear criminal background check that meets program requirements.
  • Hold a health-related baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, from a nationally accredited school.
  • If professionally licensed, registered, or certified in a healthcare field, the student must hold a current
  • unencumbered license, registry, or certification with no pending legal or state board action. The
  • unencumbered license, registry, or certification must be maintained throughout program enrollment.
  • Have an overall undergraduate GPA > 2.75.
  • Be eligible to re-enter any previously attended college or university in good standing. If previously enrolled
  • in a master’s program, the applicant must provide a letter of good standing from that program.

Demonstrate computer literacy involving proficiency in word processing, email correspondence, and the Internet.

Transfer Credit Policy

Baccalaureate-level credit cannot be accepted for master’s level courses. Transfer credit cannot be received for HAE 6260

Program Progression


Successful progression through the program requires the following:

  • Complete all assignments with a passing grade. All courses must be completed with no grade below a B.
  • See Academic Regulations   in this catalog for additional information regarding grade requirements.
  • Student grades will be reviewed at the end of each term by the program director and other WCU HAE administration to determine status in achieving the GPA necessary to progress and graduate.
