The mission of the School of Education is to cultivate caring, reflective, and ethically grounded decision-makers within a Christian intellectual tradition. The School affirms the Dispositions for Teaching Excellence and maintains a sustained commitment to exemplary pedagogy informed by theory, empirical research, and professional best practices. It promotes the development of teacher candidates as life-long learners through comprehensive, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate instructional programs. Additionally, the School provides substantive service to public and private educational institutions and contributes to the advancement of the broader professional and scholarly community. Through these endeavors, the School of Education prepares professionals who are equipped to make meaningful and enduring contributions to teaching, learning, and student well-being within an increasingly diverse, technologically complex, and continually evolving educational landscape.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers Master of Education and Educational Specialist degrees in multiple fields, as well as programs that enable licensed educators to add endorsements to an existing teaching license. Individuals who hold undergraduate degrees in non-licensure areas may obtain the standard initial teaching license through the Art of Teaching program, the institution’s approved Alternate Route pathway.
The Department of Educational Leadership offers master’s, specialist, and doctoral programs that prepare aspiring leaders for P–12 and higher education settings, with emphasis on evidence-based decision-making and instructional leadership. Flexible course scheduling supports full-time professionals in advancing their studies while continuing their careers.
The Department of Exceptional Education offers master’s, specialist, and doctoral programs designed to prepare professionals who work with individuals with exceptionalities, including giftedness, mild/moderate disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, autism, etc. The department also offers a newly established doctoral program in Neurodiverse Studies—the only one of its kind in the United States—providing advanced, research-based preparation for leaders committed to improving outcomes for the full spectrum of neurodivergent individuals.
The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation offers master’s and specialist programs that prepare professionals to plan, organize, and manage interscholastic athletic programs and private-sector sports initiatives. The curriculum emphasizes research-based leadership and management models and is offered in flexible formats to support working professionals in K–12 schools, higher education, and related fields.
