University and General Education Curriculum (38-40 hrs)
All undergraduate degrees require completion of the University and General Education Curriculum (UEC/GEC). Depending upon the degree program chosen, some GEC categories have specific course requirements. Refer to the comments in each category and always consult your degree plan and advisor when selecting courses. UEC 01 Biblical Studies (6 hrs)
GEC 01 Written Communication (6 hrs)
GEC 02 Humanities and Fine Arts (12 hrs)
2.1 Literature (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or any teacher education degree (except Music Education) must complete a minimum of 6 hrs of literature. ENG 1010 and ENG 1020 must be completed prior to enrolling in ENG 2110 or ENG 2120. - World Literature, American Literature, or Philosophy 3 hrs
2.2 History (6 hrs)
Select 1 option. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts must take HIS 1010 and HIS 1020. 2.3 Fine Arts (3 hrs)
Students majoring in one of the fine arts must select a course from one of the other two areas of study. - Art, Music, or Theatre Appreciation; Music History or Literature; Musical Theatre; or Theatre History 3 hrs
GEC 03 Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students seeking a degree in teacher education must complete PSY 2010. - Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science or Religion 3 hrs
GEC 04 Natural and Physical Sciences (3-4 hrs)
Select 1 course. BS students must take a 4-hour lab science course. Students in other degree programs may choose either a 3-hour, non-lab course or a 4-hour lab course to meet the requirement. B.A. students seeking teacher certification must also take a 4-hour lab science course. - Science (BIO, CHE, PHY, or PHS) 3-4 hrs
GEC 05 Mathematics (3 hrs)
Students seeking a Bachelor of Science may be required to complete additional MAT courses. UEC 02 Oral Communication (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. UEC 03 Health and Physical Fitness (1-3 hrs)
Activity courses (1-2 hours) or Health and Exercise for a New Lifestlye (3 hours); minimum for BSN, 1 hour; all other degrees, 2 hours; Health and Exercise for a New Lifestyle (3 hours); military science/military studies, varsity sports, marching band, and cheerleading may be used to satisfy this requirement. - Physical Education: 1-2 hrs
UEC 04 Writing Intensive Requirement
Select one. Students should consult their advisor before choosing the appropriate choice for their degree plan. DEG 01 Major Area of Study (85 hrs)
Forensic Science Requirements (52 hrs)
All courses require a minimum grade of ‘C’. *Courses satisfy a program requirement and a UEC/GEC requirement, but credit is counted only once toward total hours to degree. Chemistry Concentration Requirements (22 hrs)
All courses require a minimum grade of ‘C’. General Electives Requirement (11 hrs)
11 hours of any discipline electives; 3 of the hours must be at the 300/400 level Hours To Degree
This degree requires a minimum of 120 hrs of course credit. No more than 50% of the required 120 hrs (60 hrs) applied to this degree may be earned at a community/junior college. At least 40 hrs of earned coursework must be numbered 300 or above. The last 25% of the required 120 hrs (30 hrs) must be earned at William Carey University.
