Requirements
Program Overview
Students who have been accepted into the Ed.D. program and have completed three years of successful teaching in a P-12 setting may also take four additional classes (12 hours) and complete an internship (three trimesters/one hour each trimester) by documenting 400 hours of internship activities with two licensed P-12 administrators to meet the requirements to be recommended to the state department for a P-12 administrator/principal’s license (486).
Additional Admission Requirements
- Hold a valid teaching license.
- Provide documentation to the coordinator of the program certifying a minimum of three years teaching experience.
Additional Coursework for P-12 Administrative/Principal License Preparation
In order to include the option to obtain an administrator’s 486 license while completing the requirements for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, the following courses are required:
- EDL 602 Roles of the Principal (3)
- EDL 605 Human Resources Management (3)
- EDL 606 Judicial and Ethics Considerations (3)
- EDL 609 School Site Business Management (3)
- EDL 635 Practicum and Internship (3)
Progression
- Complete all coursework in the Ed.D. and the additional four courses with a 3.0 GPA
- Complete three hours (three trimesters) of internship by submitting 400 hours of administrative activities signed by your mentors
- Successfully defend your dissertation
