NUR 311 - Gerontological and Mental Health NursingCredit Hours: 5 Lecture Hours: 3.75 Lab Hours: 8 Focuses on the care of clients experiencing cognitive, mental and behavioral disorders. Also focuses on incorporating evidenced-based, client-centered, culturally competent and developmentally appropriate interventions to facilitate maintenance of physiological and psychological integrity for the older adult client. Emphasis is placed on promoting and maintaining care for geriatric clients as well as clients facing emotional and psychological stressors. Contemporary nursing concepts are used to facilitate crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, and coping skills for clients and families from diverse populations. Clinical experiences provide the student an opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and implement safe client care to older adult clients and clients in selected mental health settings. Prerequisite(s) All Level I nursing courses
