Interscholastic Athletic Administration, Ed.S.

The School of Education offers the Specialist of Education degree in Interscholastic Athletic Administration (IAA). This degree program has been fully approved for AAA licensure by the Mississippi Department of Education and approved by the Mississippi State Board of Education.

Program Description

Students who have already earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field may seek admission to the Interscholastic Athletic Administration program to earn the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree.  The Ed.S. Degree includes 39 semester hours including 33 semester hours in the IAA curriculum plus 2 additional courses in the Education Specialist curriculum.  

NOTE:

  • This program includes a minimum of 18 hours of PED coursework.  This may qualify a student earning this degree to teach at a university or community college level.
  • Students that hold a Master’s Degree in Interscholastic Athletic Administration are not eligible for the Specialist in Interscholastic Athletic Administration program.

Goals and Objectives

The IAA program sets the following goals for its students:

  • understanding sport management issues,
  • ability to plan sports events and manage facilities,
  • competency in marketing and promoting programs,
  • knowledge of ethical and legal concepts,
  • skill in finance and resource allocation,
  • understanding media operations,
  • capability related to effective leadership and organizational behavior,
  • skill for effective project management.

Admission Requirements

General Admission Requirements

Each applicant to graduate programs at William Carey University must:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Provide official transcript(s) of all college work completed to date. An official transcript is defined as one issued directly from the institution to William Carey University.

Program Requirements

  1. Complete and submit an online application to William Carey University graduate school admissions.
  2. Pay application fee.
  3. Hold a valid teaching license or waiver of licensure form completed.
  4. Hold a master’s degree from an institution fully accredited by a recognized accrediting agency.
  5. Have completed 30 hours of graduate work.
  6. Have a G.P.A. of 3.25 in a related master’s program.
  7. Submit two reference forms from present or previous administrators who have supervised your work.

Thirty-three hours of Interscholastic Athletic Administration courses are required.
