Program Overview
The Master of Education with concentration in Gifted Education focuses on the identification, differentiation, and social and emotional development of the intellectually gifted learner. Its objective is to prepare teachers to confidently and effectively work with exceptional learners. The foundation of the program builds understanding of the theories behind gifted learning. The courses engage students in the most current practices with research-based curriculum development, teaching strategies, and identification methods particularly for the atypicalities of the gifted learner. Students will also experience an appreciation for the artistically and creatively gifted learner. Program Admission Requirements
- Submit an online application Apply to Carey through Graduate Admissions
- Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
- Have a GPA > 2.5 on the last 64 hours of undergraduate work or a cumulative GPA > 2.5
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Hold or qualify to hold a Class A teacher’s license and provide a copy
Program Progression Requirements
- Students must maintain a GPA > 3.0 with no grade less than a ‘C’ and must complete all requirements within six years of admission into the program.

Teacher education programs at William Carey University are designed to meet the professional competency standards for licensure in Mississippi. Students who intend to seek licensure in another state should contact the License Coordinator in the School of Education to verify that their program of study meets the desired state’s licensure requirements.
