Program Overview

The M.Ed. in Mathematics Education prepares secondary educators to become reflective, caring, positive change agents in building secondary mathematics learning environments founded on the nature of mathematics, mathematical fundamental principles, trends and issues in algebra, geometry, analysis, statistics, probability, and instructional methods/assessments.

Courses are offered online on a rotation schedule with many courses, particularly seminars, offered in the summer term. The program begins each term.

Program Admission Requirements

Complete an online application and pay application fee
Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
Hold a baccalaureate degree in mathematics (or a minor in mathematics) from an accredited college or university
Have a GPA > 2.5 for the last 64 hours of undergraduate work or a cumulative GPA > 2.5 with a GPA > 3.0 in all prior math courses
Hold or qualify to hold a Class A teacher’s license (provide a copy) or sign a waiver of certification form
Provide two recommendations from past or current supervisors

Transfer Credit

A maximum of six hours of graduate credit may be transferred from another accredited institution. All transfer courses must be approved prior to degree application.

Program Progression Requirements

Students must maintain a GPA > 3.0 with no grade less than a ‘C’ and must complete all requirements within six years of admission into the program.

EDU 6200 - Teacher as Researcher 3 hrs
EDU 6300 - Historical & Philosophical Foundations of Education 3 hrs
EDU 6400 - Curriculum Planning 3 hrs

Mathematics Education Concentration (15 hrs)

Select 15 hours of graduate mathematics (MAT) education courses.

Electives (6 hrs)

Select 2 graduate courses with approval of faculty advisor.
