Program Overview
The Master of Education program with a concentration in Art Education seeks to provide students with both advanced study and improved credentials in a highly marketable chosen field of study. The program offers opportunities to build on undergraduate studies and work experiences and opens doors for candidates to become strong professional leaders in the discipline of Art Education. The program of study requires 30 hours. Classes in the education core are offered online. Art concentration courses meet traditionally (on campus) for art specific coursework in a manner designed to be flexible for working teachers. This program is ideal for full-time working professionals. William Carey uses Canvas as the learning management system for online coursework. Students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio of materials to use in day-to-day instruction. Program Admission Requirements
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with at least a minor in art / art education (this requirement may be waived by the department chair, after an interview, for holders of certificates in other subject areas)
- Have a cumulative GPA > 2.5 with a GPA > 3.0 on previous coursework in art / art education
- Hold or qualify to hold a Class A teacher’s license (provide a copy) or sign a waiver of certification form
- Present an artwork portfolio to be evaluated by the graduate art faculty (a positive evaluation is required for program admission)
- Provide two letters of recommendation from past or current supervisors
Transfer Credit A maximum of six hours of graduate credit may be transferred from another accredited institution. All transfer courses must be approved prior to degree application. Program Progression and Graduation Requirements
- Students must maintain a GPA > 3.0 with no grade less than a ‘C’ and must complete all requirements within six years of admission into the program.
