Program Overview


The Specialist in Instructional Leadership prepares instructional leaders to navigate the complex issues of an educational environment. The program equips candidates with the knowledge to positively impact students’ lives socially, emotionally, and academically. Candidates must have successfully completed a Master’s in Education or related field in order to apply for this program of study.

This program is fully online with 30 hours and cohorts start each term. This specialist program does not lead to an administrator’s certification. However, the program does lead to AAA teacher certification and a 481 Teacher Leader endorsement. 

 

Program Admission Requirements


  • Complete an online application Apply to Carey Graduate Admissions.
  • Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
  • Have a GPA > 3.25 in a related master’s program.
  • Hold a master’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Submit two reference forms from present or previous administrators who have supervised your work.
  • Hold or qualify to hold a teacher’s license (provide a copy) or sign a waiver of certification form
  • No student will be admitted on a provisional or probationary basis.

Transfer Credit

Students may transfer six hours of approved coursework from an institution that is fully accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Coursework used in a previous degree may not be used toward the specialist degree.

Program Progression Requirements


  • Students must maintain a GPA > 3.0 with no grade less than a ‘C’ and must complete all requirements within six years of admission into the program.
  • Refer to Academic Regulations  in this catalog for additional degree progression and graduation requirements.
  • Students move through the program in cohorts.
