Program Overview


The Specialist of Education in Emotional & Behavioral Disorders (EBD) will prepare teachers to conduct functional assessments and develop behavioral intervention plans, as well as to implement, monitor, and instruct children and youth with significant emotional and/or behavioral disorders in educational and clinical settings as well as residential facilities. The program of study leads to a Class AAA license in Mississippi and an endorsement in EBD.

The program is conducted in a fully online format, consists of 30 credit hours, and cohorts start each fall term.

 

Program Admission Requirements


  • Students who hold a Master’s degree in Emotional/Behavioral Disorders degree from William Carey University may not apply for the Specialist Program in EBD because the major courses have the same content.
  • Complete an online application Apply to Carey through Graduate Admissions.
  • Submit all official transcripts electronically to Graduate Admissions
  • Hold a master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a GPA > 3.25 in qualifying master’s program.
  • Hold or qualify to hold a Class AA teacher’s license and provide a copy.
  • Hold or qualify to hold the AA teacher’s license indicating an endorsement in Mild/Moderate Disabilities.

Program Progression and Graduation Requirements


  • Complete coursework with a cumulative GPA > 3.00 and no more than two ‘C’s.

  • Students must complete a minimum of 300 contact hours of practicum/internship working with students diagnosed with EBD.

Program Requirements and Professional Licensure Disclosure


Teacher education programs at William Carey University are designed to meet the professional competency standards for licensure in Mississippi. Students who intend to seek licensure in another state should contact the License Coordinator in the School of Education to verify that their program of study meets the desired state’s licensure requirements. Refer to SARA information from the Office of Online Learning for details.

Further, the Mississippi Department of Education establishes and maintains state licensure requirements, policies, and procedures, which supersede requirements listed in this catalog. Mandatory changes to this program of study will be communicated to the student through the School of Education.
