Health Informatics and Information Management, M.S. (34 hrs)

Program Overview
The Master of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) will provide you the essential skills needed to competently manage healthcare information systems, analyze and interpret healthcare data, and employ healthcare informatics concepts to improve healthcare practice. The curriculum is a synthesis of content from information technology, business, biomedical sciences, healthcare organization and delivery, and health data courses.
This 34-hr program can be completed in 12 months (after completing any necessary prerequisites) and is offered fully online to meet the needs of the working professional who seeks to elevate their skills and career opportunities. A new cohort is admitted each fall term.
Graduate Outcomes
Upon completion of the program of study in health informatics and information management, the graduate will be able to:
- Articulate and promote the need for and uses of quality data and information requirements across the lifespan;
- Organize, analyze, and manage health care data in order to improve health care outcomes, implement standards, and control costs;
- Identify and use current quality improvement, risk management, and utilization review methodologies and models;
- Analyze and respond to the information needs of internal and external customers throughout the health care continuum; and
- Advocate confidentiality, privacy, and integrity of health care data.
Program Admission Requirements
A successful applicant must:
- Have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- Have a minimum undergraduate GPA ≥ 2.5 (cumulative or on last 60 undergraduate credit hours)
- Submit a current resume showing applicant’s work experience and education
- Submit two letters of recommendation
- Complete prerequisites: Undergraduate degree in Health Information Management (HIM) OR successful completion of the following undergraduate courses:
- Anatomy
- Medical Terminology
- Computer Concepts and Applications
- Statistics
Program Progression and Graduation Requirements
Successful program progression and graduation require the following:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of > 3.0 on HIIM graduate courses with no grade lower than a ‘B’.
- One course repeat is allowed on any one HIIM course, with no more than two repeats total.
- Students earning a third grade lower than a ‘B’ will be dismissed from the program.
