Business Administration, M.B.A. (30-39 hrs)

Program Overview


The Master of Business Administration program balances management theory with practical decision making. The program is available to students with no previous business course work, in addition to undergraduate business majors. Students accepted into the program will complete an individual plan of study ranging from 30 to 39 credit hours, depending on previous business coursework. The required curriculum for a student will vary based on the educational background of the student. Students without a business degree may be required to complete a set of business foundation courses. An individual plan of course study is developed for each student as part of the application process in order to assure timely completion of the M.B.A.

The M.B.A. degree is offered online as well as on the Hattiesburg and Tradition campuses.

Graduate Outcomes


Upon completion of the degree, the student will be able to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of business ethics and its impact on decision-making;
  • The ability to analyze and interpret quantitative data;
  • The ability to apply marketing concepts in the development of a marketing plan for a company;
  • Proficiency in oral communication skills expected in professional presentations; and
  • Effective interpersonal and team-based interaction skills.

Program Admission Requirements


To be considered for program admission, each applicant must submit:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university prior to enrollment.
  • A completed application for admission,
  • Application fee,
  • Official transcripts of all college work completed,
  •  GMAT scores*,
  • Two professional nominations from individuals familiar with the applicant’s abilities, and
  • TOEFL scores, if applicable.

* The GMAT is waived for applicants with an overall undergraduate GPA > 3.25 or higher and applicants who have completed a graduate degree program. For other applicants, admission status will be determined using the Work Experience Formula or the Work Experience Plus GMAT Formula listed below with a maximum of 10 years of work experience.

Work Experience Formula:

[Undergraduate GPA  x  200] + [number of years of work experience  x 10]

Regular admission status will be granted if the admission evaluation score from the Work Experience Formula is greater than or equal to 650 points.

Work Experience Plus GMAT Formula:

[Undergraduate GPA x 200] + [number of years of work experience x 10] + GMAT

Regular admission status will be granted if the admission evaluation score from the Work Experience Plus GMAT Formula is greater than or equal to 1000 points. Probationary status will be granted if the score from the Work Experience Plus GMAT Formula is greater than 850 but less than 1000 points.

Program Progression and Graduation Requirements


Students must have successfully completed the plan of study approved by the M.B.A. admissions committee with a GPA > 3.0 within a six-year time frame. Only two grades lower than a ‘B’ are allowed. Upon receiving a second grade lower than a ‘B’, the student is advised to repeat one of the first two grades lower than a ‘B’ before continuing in the program. A student making a third grade lower than a ‘B’ will be dismissed from the program.

Foundation Courses (9 hrs)


Students without a business degree may be required to complete the business foundation courses listed below. MBA 6110  is equivalent to two undergraduate Principles of Accounting courses and is waived for students who have completed both courses. MBA 6130  is equivalent to undergraduate macro and micro economic theory courses and is waived for students who have completed both courses.
