Teaching and Learning Globally (Non-Licensure), M.Ed. (30 hrs)

Program Overview


The mission of the Master of Education in teaching and learning globally is to prepare educators to be confident, caring, and reflective educators and facility coordinators, who become change agents for positively impacting students’ lives socially, physically, emotionally, and academically.

This degree does not lead to any type of teaching license in the State of Mississippi.

Goals and Objectives

The School of Education serves to prepare confident, caring, and reflective educators within a Christian environment, from a liberal arts curriculum for pre-service educators as well as advanced preparation for in-service educators.

The specific goals and objectives of the Master of Education program are to provide students with opportunities to become confident, caring, and reflective educators by

  • earning academic credentials that may allow them to advance in the chosen field of employment;
  • experiencing personal growth and understanding through in-depth study in the area of concentration and certification;
  • expanding the students’ Christian values through course work and campus activities;
  • specializing in a chosen area or discipline;
  • building upon their undergraduate studies and work experience to broaden their knowledge base in the teaching field; and
  • becoming strong professional leaders in their chosen discipline and area of certification.

Graduate Outcomes


  • The student will exhibit scholarly professional writing skills when considering current research trends in reading and writing.
  • The student will demonstrate content knowledge and performance skills when designing curriculum for differentiated instruction, the inclusion classroom, and the co-teaching design.
  • The student will employ skills in designing and implementing the Interdisciplinary Unit by analyzing student learning, and making data-driven decisions, instructional decisions. 

Program Admission Requirements


Each applicant must:

  • hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, if a U.S. institution, or a university official government approval in the country where it is located.
  • complete and file with the graduate education office the application packet for admission to the university, which must include a signed memorandum of understanding addressing that the degree will not lead to a teaching license. This application must be submitted prior to registering for classes and before the deadline established by the graduate admission office.
  • provide official transcripts of all college work completed to date for the registrar and the graduate office. After the applicant is accepted, a supplementary official transcript showing any additional work completed at other institutions is also required.
  • have a cumulative GPA > 2.50 on the last 64 hours of undergraduate work or the cumulative GPA presented for the baccalaureate degree. If an applicant has a GPA below 2.50, the applicant may appeal the admissions decision by presenting a Graduate Record Exam minimum score of 800 (verbal and quantitative – taken prior to July 2012) or 290 (verbal and quantitative – taken after July 2012). The Miller’s Analogy Test score of 370 is also accepted.
  • not have taken more than 12 credit hours of graduate courses at WCU.

Program of Study (30 hrs)


The academic requirements for a Master of Education in teaching and learning globally consist of 30 credit hours from three categories: (1) professional education, (2) teaching and learning professional, and (3) global professional. Teaching and learning professional courses and global professional courses may be selected from specialized concentrations and electives, with advisor approval.
