University and General Education Curriculum (38-40 hrs)


All undergraduate degrees require completion of the University and General Education Curriculum (UEC/GEC). Depending upon the degree program chosen, some GEC categories have specific course requirements. Refer to the comments in each category and always consult your degree plan and advisor when selecting courses. 

GEC 01 Written Communication (6 hrs)


GEC 02 Humanities and Fine Arts (12 hrs)


2.1 Literature (3 hrs)


Select 1 course. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or any teacher education degree (except Music Education) must complete a minimum of 6 hrs of literature. ENG 1010 and ENG 1020 must be completed prior to enrolling in ENG 2110 or ENG 2120.

2.2 History (6 hrs)


Select 1 option. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts must take HIS 1010 and HIS 1020.

2.3 Fine Arts (3 hrs)


Select 1 course. Students majoring in one of the fine arts must select a course from one of the other two areas of study.

GEC 05 Mathematics (3 hrs)


Select 1 course.

UEC 03 Health and Physical Fitness (1-3 hrs)


Select from the following options. 

  •  Activity courses (1-2 hours) Military science, varsity sports, marching band, and cheerleading may be used to satisfy this requirement.  

       *BSN - 1 hour; all other degrees, 2 hours;

UEC 04 Writing Intensive Requirement (See Degree Plan)

UEC 05 Senior Capstone Requirement (See Degree Plan)


Refer to University and General Education Curriculum  for details about the senior capstone (SC) requirement.

Program Curriculum


This degree plan requires one 36-hour area of study or two 18-hour areas of study (also known as concentrations). A concentration may consist only of those courses affiliated by approved major, minor, or departmental concentration. DEG 01 Major Area of Study (36-39 hrs)


01.1 Declare a single area of study and complete a minimum of 36 hours.

DEG 02 General Electives (49-54 hrs)


Depending upon the course selections made above, this program of study requires 49-54 hours of elective credit for a total of 128 hours. Consult your faculty advisor to ensure that your choice of courses or the addition of a minor area of study is compatible with your educational and career goals. If you declare a minor, print the corresponding planner from this catalog, record the grades as you complete the courses, and submit the planner with your degree application at the conclusion of your studies. Any remaining elective courses should be recorded in the General Electives section at the end of the degree planner.

Hours To Degree


This degree requires a minimum of 128 hrs of course credit. No more than 50% of the required 128 hrs (64 hrs) applied to this degree may be earned at a community college. At least 40 hrs of earned coursework must be numbered 300 or above. The last 25% of the required 128 hrs (32 hrs) must be earned at William Carey University. Verify that you have completed the credit hrs required for this degree by recording completed hrs below.
