University and General Education Curriculum (38-40 hrs)
All undergraduate degrees require completion of the University and General Education Curriculum (UEC/GEC). Depending upon the degree program chosen, some GEC categories have specific course requirements. Refer to the comments in each category and always consult your degree plan and advisor when selecting courses.
UEC 01 Biblical Studies (6 hrs)
GEC 01 Written Communication (6 hrs)
GEC 02 Humanities and Fine Arts (12 hrs)
2.1 Literature (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or any teacher education degree (except Music Education) must complete a minimum of 6 hrs of literature. ENG 1010 and ENG 1020 must be completed prior to enrolling in ENG 2110 or ENG 2120.
2.2 History (6 hrs)
Select 1 option. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts must take HIS 1010 and HIS 1020.
2.3 Fine Arts (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students majoring in one of the fine arts must select a course from one of the other two areas of study.
GEC 03 Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students seeking a degree in teacher education must complete PSY 2010.
GEC 04 Natural and Physical Sciences (3-4 hrs)
Select 1 course. Students seeking a Bachelor of Science or any teacher education degree must complete at least one lab-science course (4 hrs).
GEC 05 Mathematics (3 hrs)
Select 1 course.
UEC 02 Oral Communication (3 hrs)
Select 1 course.
UEC 03 Health and Physical Fitness (1-3 hrs)
Select from the following options. Some degree plans require HEA 3000 while others require 1-2 hrs of physical fitness courses; consult your degree plan and/or advisor for details.
DEG 01 Major Area of Study (89 hrs)
Music History, Theory, and Training (28 hrs)
A minimum grade of ‘C’ is required in each course.
Music Therapy Requirements (36 hrs)
A minimum grade of ‘C’ is required in each course.
Additional Program Requirements (3 hrs)
*Course satisfies a GEC and a program requirement, but credit is counted only once toward total hours to degree. Record the grade on the degree planner in the appropriate GEC section and in this section.
Applied Music Major (9 hrs)
Complete 1 hr of applied music per term of enrollment for a total of 9 hrs of the same applied music major courses. A minimum grade of ‘C’ is required in each course.

Applied Music Non-Major: Piano (4 hrs)
Students whose principal instrument is piano must choose another instrument for their non-major concentration. Discuss your options with the program coordinator prior to making a selection.

When completed as described, this degree plan does not require any general elective credit.
Hours To Degree
This degree requires a minimum of 128 hrs of course credit. No more than 50% of the required 128 hrs (64 hrs) applied to this degree may be earned at a community college. At least 40 hrs of earned coursework must be numbered 300 or above. The last 25% of the required 128 hrs (32 hrs) must be earned at William Carey University. Verify that you have completed the credit hrs required for this degree by recording completed hrs below.
