School of Business


Mission Statement: The School of Business provides an environment that promotes student learning in the field of business within a caring Christian community. The educational experience in the School of Business is focused on providing students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical principles to assume leadership positions in their workplaces, communities, and the global business environment.

The school offers degrees in business administration with concentrations in accounting, computer information systems, finance, international business, management/marketing, and workforce training and management. Students may choose from three degree options: Bachelor of Science in Business (B.S.B.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). Concentrations in accounting, computer information systems, finance, international business, and management/marketing are offered on the Hattiesburg campus. Concentrations in computer information systems, marketing/management, and workforce training and management are offered on the Tradition campus.

The school also offers two unique degree plans - Bachelor of Science in Business in cross-cultural business management and a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in supervisory management. The cross-cultural business management program is jointly offered with the Department of Intercultural Studies, is conferred by the School of Business, and combines courses in business and intercultural studies to meet the need for entrepreneurial mission work. Students will be equipped with the necessary business skills to enter the private sector as well as with the theological, missiological, and cultural knowledge necessary to be a career missionary. The Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in supervisory management is tailored for students who have an earned Associate of Applied Science in a technical field of study. The B.A.S. combines the general education courses and technical courses completed at the associate-level with supervisory management courses to prepare students for career advancement in a variety of business and technical fields. 

Professional Licensure Disclosure: The business administration degree with a concentration in accounting provides students the accounting education required for careers as professional accountants in financial institutions, government, industry, nonprofit organizations, and public practice. The degree meets the educational requirements for those desiring to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam in Mississippi. The CPA exam and licensing requirements for the State of Mississippi can be found at https://www.msbpa.ms.gov/licensing-exams. William Carey University cannot determine whether the program meets licensing requirements in any other state. Students seeking licensure in another state should consult that state’s licensure board for educational, exam eligibility, and/or licensing requirements.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program of study, graduates will be able to:

Business Administration Program

  • demonstrate proficiency in written business communication skills in the preparation of documents for use in job searches;
  • demonstrate proficiency in oral communication skills expected in professional business presentations;
  • demonstrate proficiency in analyzing a business case describing a challenge faced by an organization;
  • demonstrate proficiency in the use of business computer software programs and their applications;
  • demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental terminology and concepts in the major areas of business; 
  • demonstrate proficiency in problem solving and communication skills on a project analyzing the results of a business simulation; and
  • identify the major concepts, theories, and practices in their fields of concentration.

Cross-Cultural Business Management, B.S.B.

  • demonstrate knowledge of political, economic, and cultural factors in the development of global business strategies;
  • demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication skills;
  • demonstrate the application of business concepts through the construction of a business plan;
  • identify the major concepts, theories, and practices in global supply chain management and apply them to organizational decision making; and
  • identify the major concepts, theories, and practices in finance.

Supervisory Management, B.A.S.

  • demonstrate knowledge of fundamental business concepts in making a variety of management decisions;
  • utilize appropriate technologies and business methodologies to support managerial functions;
  • utilize information to communicate through written documents, oral presentations, and the use of technology;
  • demonstrate professional collaboration skills by effectively participating in team activities; and
  • solve management problems.
