Art, B.F.A. (128 hrs)

University and General Education Curriculum (38-40 hrs)


All undergraduate degrees require completion of the University and General Education Curriculum (UEC/GEC). Depending upon the degree program chosen, some GEC categories have specific course requirements. Refer to the comments in each category and always consult your degree plan and advisor when selecting courses. 

GEC 01 Written Communication (6 hrs)


GEC 02 Humanities and Fine Arts (12 hrs)


2.1 Literature (3 hrs)


Select 1 course. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, or any teacher education degree (except Music Education) must complete a minimum of 6 hrs of literature. ENG 1010 and ENG 1020 must be completed prior to enrolling in ENG 2110 or ENG 2120.

2.2 History (6 hrs)


Select 1 option. Students seeking a Bachelor of Arts must take HIS 1010 and HIS 1020.

2.3 Fine Arts (3 hrs)


Select 1 course. Students majoring in one of the fine arts must select a course from one of the other two areas of study.

GEC 05 Mathematics (3 hrs)


Select 1 course.

UEC 03 Health and Physical Fitness (1-3 hrs)


Select from the following options. 

  •  Activity courses (1-2 hours) Military science, varsity sports, marching band, and cheerleading may be used to satisfy this requirement.  

       *BSN - 1 hour; all other degrees, 2 hours;

UEC 04 Writing Intensive Requirement


Select one. Students should consult their advisor before choosing the appropriate choice for their degree plan.

UEC 05 Senior Capstone Requirement (See Degree Plan)


Refer to University and General Education Curriculum  for details about the senior capstone (SC) requirement.

DEG 01 Major Area of Study (84 hrs)


Art Concentration Requirements (21-33 hrs)


This plan of study requires the completion of an art concentration; students may select a concentration from Individual Art Concentration Requirements (B.F.A.)  or Combined Art Concentration Requirements (B.F.A.) Record the declared concentration and the number of required hours in this section on the degree planner and at the top of the degree planner in the space provided. Print the appropriate concentration requirements planner, record the grades as you complete the courses, and submit the planner with your application for degree at the conclusion of your studies.

Art Electives (6-18 hrs)


Depending upon the concentration chosen and the number of hours required to complete the concentration, the degree plan requires 6-18 hrs of ART electives for a total of 84 hrs of ART courses. Consult your faculty advisor to ensure that your choice of courses is compatible with your educational and career goals. Record completed ART electives below.

DEG 02 Additional BFA Degree Requirements (3 hrs)


In addition to completing the UEC/GEC, students seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts must also complete an additional literature course. Upon completion of the course, mark it on the degree planner in this section.

DEG 03 General Electives (1-3 hrs)


Depending upon course selections made above, this program of study requires 1-3 hrs of elective credit for a total of 128 hrs. Record elective credit in the General Electives section at the end of the degree planner.

Hours To Degree


This degree requires a minimum of 128 hrs of course credit. No more than 50% of the required 128 hrs (64 hrs) applied to this degree may be earned at a community college. At least 40 hrs of earned coursework must be numbered 300 or above. The last 25% of the required 128 hrs (32 hrs) must be earned at William Carey University. Verify that you have completed the credit hrs required for this degree by recording completed hrs below.
