OMS 7315 - Rural Medicine

8 hrs
Rural medicine is a four-week, fourth-year core rotation completed in a rural setting in one of WCUCOM’s established hubsites. Preceptors for the rural medicine rotation will typically practice in an area with few providers and limited patient access to specialty care in the area. Rural medicine preceptors provide care in both office and critical access hospital settings. Rural medicine is an essential component of the primary care infrastructure of the US health care delivery system, in addition to being a primary focus for clinical training at WCUCOM. This clinical experience should provide more concentration in prevention and screening, coordination of health care, continuity of service, and family and community dynamics. In addition, students will gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and managing acute disease presentation and chronic disease management, often in patients with multiple co-morbid conditions.
Grade: Pass/Fail
