The Geography Minor requires 21 hours, which must include GEO 369, 403, 404, and 480.

Geography

Relationship between Geography (GEO) and History (HIS) courses.

Courses cross-listed between HIS and GEO will have common lectures, but assignments will reflect the unique student learning outcomes for each course.  For example, for HIS /GEO 471,  readings in HIS 471 would include passages from Roman historians (Tactius, Suetonius, Josephus, etc.), while readings for GEO 471 would consist of passages from Roman geographers (Pliny the Elder, Ptolemy, Strabo).  A writing assignment for HIS 471 may be a research paper detailing a particular emperor’s cultural or military achievements, while a GEO 471 research project might be a regional geographic study of a Roman province.  All GEO prefixed courses will require a mapping assignment as well.  Exams would also differ based the unique content of the courses.

Note: Students may not register for the HIS and the GEO section of the course within the same trimester.
