Requirements

The Spanish major must fulfill the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree requirements, including the intermediate core (SPA 201 -SPA 202 ) or their equivalents and 24 additional hours in upper-level Spanish and specialty courses.

English or Spanish majors desiring teacher licensure must (1) complete all professional requirements mandated by the State of Mississippi certification standards; (2) complete a minor in education, and (3) be advised by the Department of Language and Literature and by the Department of Education.

In addition to core requirements, the major includes the following requirements:

SPA 331 - Survey of Spanish Literature I Credit Hours: 3
SPA 332 - Survey of Spanish Literature II Credit Hours: 3

at least one course in life and culture (3 hours) from

SPA 323 - Spanish and Latin American Cinema Credit Hours: 3
SPA 420 - Life and Culture of Latin America Credit Hours: 3
or
SPA 421 - Life and Culture of Spain Credit Hours: 3

at least one practicum or internship course (3 hours) from

SPA 480 - Spanish Practicum in the United States Credit Hours: 3
SPA 482 - Spanish Practicum Abroad Credit Hours: 3
SPA 484 - Internship in Spanish in the US Credit Hours: 3
SPA 486 - Internship in Spanish Abroad Credit Hours: 3

at least one course in grammar & composition (3 hours) from

SPA 305 - Spanish Grammar and Composition Credit Hours: 3
or
SPA 434 - Advanced Language Skills Credit Hours: 3
