Health Administration and Education, M.S. (38-40 hrs)

Program Overview


The Master of Science in Health Administration and Education program is a 38-hour program with a focus on administration and leadership in the healthcare setting, as well as education for healthcare professionals. Graduates will be prepared to apply both administrative and business theories in leadership roles in the healthcare industry. They will also be prepared to apply educational theories and concepts to the classroom setting. The goal of this program is to prepare professionals for administrative and educator roles that facilitate quality patient care in the increasingly complex healthcare industry.

Program Admission Requirements


To be admitted as a regular student, the applicant must:

  • Submit a completed application to William Carey University graduate school.
  • Pay the application fee.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  • Submit a statement of professional goals.
  • Submit a current resume.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit the completed and notarized criminal background check affidavit.
  • Have a clear criminal background check that meets program requirements.
  • Hold a health-related baccalaureate degree, or its equivalent, from a nationally accredited school;
  • If professionally licensed, registered, or certified in a healthcare field, the student must hold a current unencumbered license, registry, or certification with no pending legal or state board action. (unencumbered license must be maintained throughout program enrollment)
  • Have an overall undergraduate GPA > 3.0 or a GPA > 2.5 on the last 30 undergraduate hours.
  • Be eligible to re-enter any previously attended college or university in good standing.
  • Demonstrate computer literacy involving proficiency in word processing, email correspondence, and the Internet.

Transfer Credit Policy

Students are allowed to transfer up to nine hours of graduate work from another college or university to be applied to the MS-HAE degree. The individual student is responsible for asking for possible transfer credit and providing the appropriate documents including course catalog description and syllabus, for review by the program director. Baccalaureate-level credit cannot be accepted for master’s level courses. Transfer credit cannot be received for HAE 6110 HAE 6120 , and HAE 6130 . Refer to the University’s Graduate transfer requirements for more information.

 

Program Progression


Program Progression Requirements

Successful progression through the program requires the following:

  • Demonstrate competency in scholarly writing by submission of GRE Analytical Writing score of 3.5 or better within the last five years or passing HAE 6000 Scholarly Writing for Healthcare Professionals  with a grade of ‘B’ or better prior to taking courses within the program.
  • Complete all assignments with a passing grade. Only two grades lower than a ‘B’ are allowed. A grade of ‘F’ must be repeated for a grade of ‘C’ or higher. Upon receiving a second grade lower than a ‘B’, the student is advised to repeat one of the first two grades before continuing in the program. Students making a third grade lower than ‘B’ are dismissed from the program.

  • Student grades will be reviewed at the end of each term by the program director and other WCU HAE administration to determine status in achieving the GPA necessary to progress and graduate.
