Theatre, B.F.A.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Theatre is a theatre field-of-emphasis professional degree structured for those students interested in pursuing a career in theatre for young audiences or entering a graduate program pursuant to a Master of Fine Arts degree. The B.F.A. in Theatre is offered with two areas of concentration: Theatre for Young Audiences and Script Writing. 

Admission Requirements

For the Theatre for Young Audiences concentration: 

Audition/Portfolio Review

A one-page narrative on the student’s interest in Theatre for Young Audiences

For the Script Writing concentration:

A sample original play (one-act or full length.)

Curriculum


The curriculum for the B.F.A. in Theatre includes the following components.

University Core Curriculum    —————————————–44 hours

Theatre for Young Audiences Concentration—————-33 hours

         Theatre for Young Audiences Electives———————-20 hours

Script Writing Electives—————————————17 hours

BFA Theatre Core


The following 17 hours are required for the the B.F.A. in Theatre Core:

B.F.A. in Theatre Concentrations


Students in the B.F.A. in Theatre must complete a concentration in either Theatre for Young Audiences or Script Writing.

Theatre for Young Audiences


The Theatre for Young Audiences concentration requires 33 hours, as follows:

Twenty hours of electives are required, of which 6 hours must be from the following list:

The Script Writing concentration requires 36 hours, as follows:

Seventeen elective hours are required, of which 6 hours must be from the following list:
